Tricking Emma – Biography

Tricking Emma is Melbourne based songwriters and performers Bryce Cuttriss and Joel Evans.

The duo were discovered in 2009 by an A&R Executive from Melbourne based label Diamond Dog Records at The Palace Hotel in Camberwell. They were competing in ‘The Last Band Standing’ a local competition designed to uncover local bands and musician’s giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents to a live audience.

What was immediately impressive to Diamond Dog’s A&R was the obvious radio-friendly yet quirky inventiveness of their songs and the natural charisma of the duo. But what clinched it was the huge reaction from the audience at the competition.

Diamond Dog Records commissioned Tricking Emma to record demos of five new songs. Based on what emerged in the studios, the label signed the group to a long-term recording agreement.

Tricking Emma’s first release for the label is a 5 track EP titled ‘Boat Afloat‘ – The title track is the group’s first radio release & feature’s glorious hooks with quirky, clever & youthful lyrics.

The EP was recorded at Dragon’s Lair Studios in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne with renowned vocalist & musician, Chris Doheny handling production duties. Doheny also contributed 12 string electric guitars and a hot Beatle style Hofner bass to the recording. ‘Boat Afloat’ may well be one of the most infectious tracks you’ll hear !
